Alexandria Law Enforcers Collect 193 Pounds of Unwanted Prescription Drugs

Alexandria's Police Department and Sheriff's Office collect the drugs through a program with the Drug Enforcement Agency

Alexandria's Police Department and Sheriff’s Office collected 193 pounds of expired, unused and unwanted prescription drugs for destruction at the second National Prescription Drug Take Back Day.

The two agencies on Saturday worked in concert with the Drug Enforcement Administration to help prevent increased pill abuse and theft.  Additionally, the take-back program allows the drugs to be disposed of properly rather than being tossed in a trash can where they can impact the environment and waste system.

Approximately 5,033 collections sites nationwide participated in the second nationwide program this past Saturday.
