Alexandria Police Charge Woman With Credit Card Fraud

Charges against Terry Bellamy of Prince George's County stem from wallet missing at La Madeleine on King St.

Alexandria detectives have charged a woman with credit card fraud following an investigation into a wallet being taken from La Madeleine in Old Town in November 2010.

Terri Bellamy, 41, of Prince Georges County, Md., has been charged with two counts of credit card fraud and was arrested on Mar. 8 in Maryland and extradited to Alexandria.

The charges stem from a wallet that was stolen on Nov. 14.  The wallet's owner was  at the La Madeleine Bakery located at 500 King Street between 11 a.m. and 11:30 a.m. and noticed her wallet missing from her purse as she was leaving the restaurant.  The victim’s credit card that was in her wallet was used the same day.

Detectives from Alexandria's Criminal Investigations Section worked in cooperation with the U.S. Secret Service, the Inspector General offices of the U.S. Agriculture and Homeland Security departments and the Prince Georges County Police Department. Bellamy is a federal government employee. 

The police said it is an ongoing investigation and additional charges may be pending.
