Alexandria Police Investigate Discovery of Skeletal Remains
What appears to be human skeleton was found in wooded area near Franklin and Union streets
Alexandria Police are investigating what appear to be human skeletal remains found in the wooded area around Old Town Alexandria's Franklin and Union streets on Sunday.
At approximately 8 a.m., a city resident was walking his dog in the wooded area around Ford’s Landing. The dog discovered what appeared to be human skeletal remains. Crime scene investigators and detectives responded to investigate with the assistance of a Fairfax County Police Department’s cadaver dog.
Jody Donaldson, an Alexandria Police spokesman, said it was not clear at this time whether the remains were from a man, woman or child but noted that the remains had been there "for a while."

The remains were sent to the medical examiner’s office. Anyone with information is asked to contact the Criminal Investigations Section at 703-838-4444 or the Crime Solvers tip line at 703-838-4858. Witnesses can remain anonymous.
