Alexandria Police Investigating Armed Robbery at Royal Street Safeway

Helicopter assists in search for suspects.

12:05 a.m. Monday update — One shot was fired during the Sunday night armed robbery of the South Royal Street Safeway that left one injured, according to NBC Washington.

A city official confirmed to Patch that a person in the store was grazed by a bullet during the robbery, which occurred about 8:30 p.m. The victim was not seriously hurt.  

Police told NBC Washington the robbery began when two or three suspects entered the grocery store and demanded cash. A clerk at the store complied and the suspects fled the scene.
