Alexandria Police Make Arrests in Copper Thefts

Thefts took place in April and May in Alexandria.

The Alexandria Police Department has arrested William Bauckman, 30, of, Fairfax City, and Sean Griffin, 31, of Fairfax, for a series of copper thefts that occurred in Alexandria during April and May, according to a news release from police. The two are presumed innocent until proven guilty.

The Police Department said in a news release that crime analysts and detectives identified Bauckman’s connection to one copper theft and were then able to link him to the other thefts.

Bauckman was arrested on May 9 and charged with six counts of Grand Larceny. Griffin was arrested Monday and charged with Grand Larceny and Grand Larceny with Intent to Sell.

Police say that while the two suspects have been arrested, it is easy for thieves to access copper gutters and downspouts. Call the Alexandria Police Department at (703) 746-4444 when observing suspicious behavior around gutters or roofs; do not assume the person belongs there.

Police ask that anyone with information about these suspects contact Detective Michael Whelan at (703) 746-6228.
