Alexandria Sees Lowest Crime Rate Since 1966

Alexandria police report a 0.9 percent decrease, or 33 fewer offenses, in 2010. However, rapes, aggravated assaults and larceny increased.

The Alexandria Police Department reports that crime in the city has reached its lowest annual total in 46 years by decreasing 0.9 percent or by 33 offenses in 2010.

Homicide, robbery, burglary and auto theft declined in 2010. However, rapes increased by five offenses, which is an increase of one-third. Additionally, aggravated assaults increased by 10 offenses and larceny increased by 59 offenses.
