Fundraisers Planned for Alexandria Officer Laboy

Laboy was shot in the head Feb. 27 during a traffic stop in Old Town.

Two fundraisers and a blood drive are planned for March and April in honor of Alexandria police officer Peter Laboy, who was shot in the head during a traffic stop Feb. 27 in Old Town.

Laboy remains hospitalized. Kashif Bashir of Woodbridge has been charged in connection with the shooting.

On Thursday, March 21, a blood drive will be held in Laboy’s honor at the Alexandria Police Department, 3600 Wheeler Ave. Participants can give blood from 8:30 a.m. to 2:30 p.m. Call 1-866-BLOODSAVES to schedule an appointment.

On Saturday, March 23, The Greener Cleaner is donating 10 percent of its proceeds to benefit Laboy. The fundraising promotion will be taking place at both the Greener Cleaner of Del Ray and the Greener Cleaner of Clarendon.

On Sunday, March 24, a fundraiser for Laboy and his family will be held at Murphy’s Pub, 713 King St. Come from 3 p.m. to 7 p.m. to support the family with a $10 donation at the door, along with a silent auction and raffle items.

On April 3, Alexandria City Public Schools will host a community blood drive in honor of Laboy from 3 p.m. to 8 p.m. at Lyles-Crouch Traditional Academy, 530 S. St. Asaph St. Please call 1-800-GIVE-LIFE or visit the American Red Cross website (sponsor code is 15058) to schedule a donation.

On April 4, the West End Business Association will hold a fundraiser for Laboy during its regularly scheduled happy hour at Hawthorn Suites Alexandria, 420 N. Van Dorn St. The event runs from 5:30 p.m. to 7:30 p.m.

Also, the Alexandria Police Department has set up a donation center through the Alexandria Police Association on behalf of Laboy’s family. Anyone wishing to help the family can drop off a donation at the Alexandria Police Department, 3600 Wheeler Ave. or send a donation to:
