A driver struck and killed a longtime Northern Virginia pediatrician Sunday, Jan. 19 in Springfield, according to InsideNova.

Fairfax County police said an 80-year-old man driving a 2008 Mazda 323 struck Dr. Thomas Sullivan while turning left onto Old Keene Mill Road from Greeley Boulevard during a green light just before 8 a.m. Sunday.

Sullivan, who had practiced medicine in Alexandria, Woodbridge and Lorton since 1972, was walking across the eastbound lanes of Old Keene Mill when he was struck on his way to church. He was not using a crosswalk, according to the report.

Sullivan was transported to Inova Fairfax Hospital, where he was pronounced dead a short time later. He was 74.

Sullivan was one of the founding partners of ALL Pediatrics, where his son, Dr. Brendan Sullivan, joined him in practice in 2000. He was president of the Virginia chapter of the American Academy of Pediatrics in 2001 and 2002. Sullivan devoted much of his time to working with children with Attention Deficit Disorder.

Dr. William C. Rees of Burke Pediatrics penned an obituary for his colleague on Fairfax Patch.

“Virginia, its pediatricians and, most importantly, its children, are in a better place, thanks to the advocacy of Dr. Thomas J. Sullivan, MD, FAAP,” wrote Rees. “We will miss him so much; he was our hero, a child's best friend, and our mentor.”

It is ALL about rights. The Patch has the RIGHT to determine its own terms of use, regardless of the reason. Or are you asserting that they must allow anything to be posted on their website? Doesn't that violate their rights as property owners? You are free to start your on website and publish what you wish. By the same token, you are free to join with others in a public place to assert your position on most anything. However, you are not free to do so in my front yard, nor on any other property I own. If you think that aligns me with Mr. Hitler, then you have missed the lesson of his tyranny. If you think that exercising property rights is the heart and soul of tyranny, then perhaps you ought to live for some time where property rights do not exist. And if the only view of the world a person gets is from the Patch, or any other single source, then that person needs to expand his/her horizons.

I might add that, IMO, there is nothing in the terms of use that prevents a person from posting his/her view of the world to the public. Maybe you ought to read over them sometime, especially since you have agree to bide by them.

After a bit of research, I see that it was your comments (5 posts, was it?) that were removed. Does make your position a little clearer...

One last comment. Mr Mahone. I note that you made several comments regarding gay marriage, homosexuals, perverts, lesbians, etc. Some of this I find amusing, some I find offensive, some I find distorted. You have a RIGHT to these views, but none of it appears to violate terms of use of the PATCH, so none of it was removed. That is as it should be. So it seems that you have exercised your privilege of posting your views on this site.
