Photo Gallery: 2011 National Night Out

Multiple gatherings around Old Town Alexandria brought citizens and police together to increase awareness of neighborhood crime and drug prevention efforts.

The 28th Annual National Night Out was held around the country on Tuesday evening. The event is a coordinated effort amongst police, neighborhood watch programs, and citizens to help increase crime and drug prevention awareness on a local level.

Neighborhood blocks held gatherings that included cookouts, bounce houses and snow cones. Some locations also housed special police vehicles that could be explored by the attendees. Multiple events were held simultaneously all around the Alexandria area.

Members of the Alexandria City Police and Sheriff departments attended the various block parties to help increase crime prevention awareness and to allow the neighborhood citizens get to know them and their missions better. High ranking police, sheriff and city officials did their best to visit multiple gatherings around the area.
