Police Arrest Nine Drivers During DWI Checkpoint

Checkpoint, held Friday night through Saturday morning, also yielded tickets for a multitude of other offenses.

Alexandria police arrested nine drivers for driving while intoxicated during a checkpoint in the 600 block of S. Patrick St. from 10 p.m. on Friday, Nov. 18, to 6 a.m. on Saturday, Nov. 19.

Vehicles were stopped and drivers were checked to assure that their abilities to drive had not been impaired by alcohol or drugs.

During the checkpoint, approximately 861 vehicles passed through. Twenty tickets were issued for miscellaneous traffic offenses and two people were charged with possession of marijuana. One person was charged with underage possession of alcohol.

Eleven Alexandria police officers, one Alexandria Sheriff’s deputy, two parking enforcement officers and one emergency communications technician participated in the enforcement effort.
