Report: Two Men Charged in November Safeway Robbery

One person was injured in November holdup.

Two men have been charged in the November robbery of the South Royal Street Safeway, according to The Washington Post.

Federal prosecutors have charged Calvin Leon Lewis, 29, of Washington, D.C., and Ray Allen Dicks Jr., 23, of Maryland, with conspiracy, interference with commerce by robbery and other related counts in an indictment released Thursday in federal court in Alexandria, according to the report.

Prosecutors say on Nov. 17 the two men robbed the Old Town grocery store at gunpoint along with two others who were not named. A person in the store was shot as the group fled to a getaway vehicle. The victim was not seriously injured.

The indictment says at least $7,900 was taken in the robbery. Lewis, Dicks and another person wore masks and gloves, showed weapons and demanded money, while a fourth person waited in the getaway car, according to the Post.

A helicopter was employed to assist in the search for suspects immediately following the robbery.
