Skeletal remains were discovered Monday morning near the Duke Street exit of Interstate-395, according to The Washington Post.
A construction crew found the remains in a wooded area of the cloverleaf interchange next to Landmark Mall. No identification was found. The Virginia State Police described the remains as badly decomposed and were unable to determine gender.
The remains were taken to the Office of the Medical Examiner in Manassas. State Police are investigating the matter.
Evidence of homeless encampments was found inside the wooded area.
