Suspicious Death Ruled Homicide; Police Identify Victim as Ronald Kirby
Alexandria Police: Ronald Kirby, a longtime transportation planner, was shot multiple times.
Alexandria police identified the victim in Monday’s suspicious death in the city’s Rosemont neighborhood as Ronald Kirby.
An autopsy performed Tuesday determined the death to be a homicide, according to police. The cause of death was identified as multiple gunshot wounds.
The incident was reported around 12:30 p.m. Monday in the 200 block of Elm Street.

According to police, a relative found Kirby, 69, unconscious. He was pronounced dead on the scene by medics.
Alexandria Police Chief Earl Cook will hold a 1 p.m. briefing to discuss the case.

Kirby was the director of transportation planning at the Metropolitan Washington Council of Governments, a regional organization made up of representatives from 18 Washington-area municipalities.
Kirby was responsible for supervising ongoing projects, including planning for highway and public transportation systems in the region and assessing the air quality implications of transportation programs. Kirby was also involved in airport systems planning for the region.

Kirby’s death is the fifth homicide in Alexandria in 2013.
