Anna Leider is Alexandria’s new general registrar.
The city’s electoral board announced the appointment this week.
Leider, who has been an election official in Alexandria for more than 15 years, will succeed Tom Parkins.
The general registrar’s responsibilities include operating a local office and voter registration services, maintaining voter registration records and providing local administration of elections.
“Alexandria has a long tradition of professionally and fairly administered elections and voter registration,” Alexandria Electoral Board Secretary Donald Ledwig said in a release. “We are fortunate to have in Anna a registrar with extensive electoral experience and familiarity with our community.”
Leider has helped manage 30 elections in the city, including three presidential elections and three recounts. She has served on the city’s Election Process Review Committee, Budget and Fiscal Affairs Advisory Committee and the 250th Anniversary Commission.
Leider grew up in Alexandria and is a T.C. Williams High School graduate. She earned a bachelor’s degree in American studies at Amherst College and a master’s in administration from New York University. She has previously owned and operated a publishing company.
Parkins had held the position of general registrar since 2000. The Alexandria Democratic Committee and Alexandria Republican City Committee recently held a sendoff for Parkins, who retired Dec. 31.
