Lifeguards resuscitate 6-year-old boy participating in city-sponsored camp

The Alexandria Fire Department responded to a report of a near drowning at the city of Alexandria’s Warwick Pool Friday afternoon.

A 6-year-old boy who was participating in a city-sponsored camp was found unresponsive in a 4-foot deep area of the pool located at 3301 Landover Street.

City lifeguards pulled him out and provided mouth-to-mouth resuscitation prior to the Fire Department’s arrival.

The child was breathing when Fire Department staff arrived at the scene.

The child’s parents were notified and he was responsive and alert upon being transported to Children’s Hospital in Washington, D.C.
