Alexandria Offers Two Recycling Events Saturday

Events are part of city's celebration of America Recycles Day, officially held Nov. 15.

The City of Alexandria is asking residents to pledge to recycle more on Thursday, America Recycles Day, and is offering two related events this weekend to help them achieve that.

On Saturday, residents are invited to join:

Paper Shredding Event
Free paper shredding is available to residents from 9 a.m. – 1 p.m., located in the parking lot at 2900 Business Center Dr.

Mercury Disposal Event
A mercury disposal event will take place from 7:30 a.m. - 3:30 p.m. at the city’s Household Hazardous Waste facility at 3224 Colvin St. Covanta Energy will distribute $5 gift cards to all city residents who turn in mercury-containing devices such as thermostats, thermometers, sphygmomanometers, manometers, barometers and hygrometers, as well as liquid mercury.
