Alexandria's Law Enforcers Pay Honor to the Fallen

The City of Alexandria payed tribute to the fallen members of its Police Department and Sheriff's Office at a wreath laying ceremony on Monday afternoon

Members of the Police Department and Sheriff's Office, along with their friends and families, gathered at Waterfront Park on Monday to lay a wreath to honor those who have given their lives in service.

Mayor Bill Euille opened the ceremony by addressing the small crowd that formed at the park. Following Mayor Euille was the Presentation of Colors provided by members of the Sheriff's and Police Department's Honor Guard.

Sheriff Dana Lawhorne, Police Chief Earl Cook and Mitzi Nickle of the Alexandria Retired Police, Fire and Sherrif Association presented the wreath to honor all of those slain while serving the city.

The event was held in association with National Police Week, which continues through May 21.
