Alfred Street Baptist Offers Prayer Vigil, Free Rides to the Polls

Alfred Street church's ipray.iserve.iVote initiative to energize and educate voters culminates this week.

Alfred Street Baptist Church will culminate its ipray.iserve.iVote initiative with a community prayer vigil and free rides to the polls.

The vigil features pastors who will join with attendees to pray for all presidential and local candidates on Monday, Nov. 5 at 7 p.m.

On Election Day, Alfred Street volunteers will provide residents with free rides to and from polling stations.

“We take seriously our responsibility as followers of Christ to pray for our nation and its leaders,” said Rev. Dr. Howard-John Wesley of the Alfred Street Baptist Church. “Monday’s prayer vigil will be a time for us to lay aside our party affiliations and unite as one nation, one body to pray for each of the candidates and their families and for everyone who will cast a vote in Tuesday’s election.”

Since July, Alfred Street Baptist has led the ipray.iserve.iVote initiative to aid members of the Northern Virginia, DC, and Maryland communities get energized and educated about the upcoming election. The church has hosted educational town halls, voter registration drives, neighborhood canvassing, and rallies to register area voters.
