The City of Alexandria has lifted its advisory to steer clear of waters in Holmes Run that were affected by a recent sewage spill.
The advisory was prompted by the spill near the intersection of Holmes Run Parkway and North Paxton Street, which is approximately 300 yards upstream of the Beatley pedestrian bridge. The city had advised residents to avoid direct contact with the waters of Holmes Run, downstream of the Ripley Street fair weather crossing.
City staff working with Fairfax County have successfully installed temporary sewer bypasses around the broken sewer pipe.
City staff, in coordination with Fairfax County, are continuing to develop and implement permanent repairs. While permanent repairs are completed, residents will continue to see temporary bypasses and pumps being maintained. In response to noise concerns, the city said it has used the quietest pumps available to minimize the noise impact.
