Lee Center event will include a discussion of mental health first aid services for children.

Del. Rob Krupicka is cosponsoring a forum concerning children and mental health issues on May 18 at the Nannie Lee Center, located at 1108 Jefferson St. in South Old Town.

The event will include an overview of recently approved legislation dealing with mental health services, a panel discussion concerning a new program providing education for parents and those who work with children on mental health first aid, and a discussion of available mental health services through local community service boards.

“We would like to open the door to de-stigmatizing mental health issues, talk about what services are available and what it is like to receive those services, as well as start the conversation about what next steps we can be taking to improve mental health services and reduce the stigma associated with them,” Krupicka wrote in an email.

The event begins at 11:30 a.m. with a meet-n-greet, followed by a two-hour forum at noon.
