Did You Know It's Try Transit Week?

Pledge to take public transit and be eligible for a one-year transit pass and Amtrak tickets.

Virginia wants to get drivers out of their cars and on to mass transit this week during the fourth annual Try Transit Week.

Drivers who pledge to use a train, hop on the bus, take the Metro, join a carpool or vanpool or even telecommute at least once this week could win a one-year transit pass and two round-trip tickets on Amtrak Virginia.

To make the pledge, visit trytransitweek.com and click "Pledge Now."

DASH, Alexandria's bus service, is holding a related contest that asks people to answer the question: "Why should people try transit?" Answers should be emailed to DASHContest@alexandriava.gov and the winner could receive two tickets to the Potomac Riverboat Company.

Try Transit Week coincides with the D.C. metro area's Car Free Day on Thursday, an international event to encourage people to leave their cars parked for the day.
