Public Hearing on Northern Virginia Regional Water Supply Plan

The City of Alexandria joined 21 communities in the Northern Virginia area to develop a regional Water Supply Plan.  Local municipalities partnered with the Northern Virginia Regional Commission in developing a comprehensive plan, with detailed input and feedback from each community and jurisdiction.

The plan includes information about water sources, data on water use, water resource conditions, water management actions, analysis of alternatives and drought/contingency plans in the event of water deficits.  The plan also includes water demand projections through 2040 and an assessment of water supply to meet these demands.  The development of a Water Supply Plan is mandated by the Commonwealth of Virginia and a draft plan was submitted to the Virginia Department of Environmental Quality on November 2, 2011.
