Local Senate Primary Second Most-Expensive in State

Candidates Adam Ebbin, Libby Garvey and Rob Krupicka spent $746,268 in Democratic primary for state Senate seat.

The District 30 state Senate Democratic primary race was the second most-expensive Senate primary in the state, coming in at $746,268, according to the Virginia Public Access Project. The most expensive Senate race was in District 3, where the candidates spent $822,831.  That district includes James City County, Gloucester County and York County, east of Richmond.

The winner of the District 30 primary, , received 38.8 percent of the vote and spent the least amount of the three candidates, coming in at $189,637.  

Alexandria City Councilman came in second in the race, garnering 36 percent of the vote, and spent the most at $233,084.

Arlington County school board member came in third, with 25.3 percent of the vote. She spent $192,986.

Here's the breakdown for the amount each candidate spent per vote:

  • Ebbin spent $41.57 per vote
  • Krupicka spent $55 per vote
  • Garvey spent $64.85 per vote

The 30th District includes the City of Alexandria, and parts of Fairfax County and Arlington County.

Ebbin will face GOP candidate Tim McGhee on Nov. 8.
