City staff said this week before council that vendor selection for the new Miracle Field should occur within the next two weeks and plans are on track to open the new field in September.
The field, which will be located near the , is designed to support the , which provides an accessible and fun environment for individuals with special needs and others to enjoy sports activities.
Vice Mayor Kerry Donley urged staff to stay on track with construction of the new field so that the momentum for the project continues.
“We’d like to see us hit that target of September so we can commission the field so that it’s used” for that sports season, he said.
“It’s a tremendous advancement for youngsters and a tremendous community effort,” he said, noting that groundbreaking for the field occurred a couple of weeks ago and he’d like to see work on it going strong over the summer.
Staff expected that would be the case.
There is $285,000 allocated for the field in the city’s Capital Improvement Program expenditures for Fiscal Year 2013.
