Telework Option Encouraged Wednesday

Telework could lighten traffic congestion and save federal workers commuting delays and travel disruptions, according to OPM.

The Office of Personnel Management is encouraging federal agencies to allow staff to telework Wednesday in light of the traffic impact of events related to the 50th anniversary of the “I Have a Dream” speech by Martin Luther King Jr.

An OPM memo sent last week said agencies will be open Wednesday but “due to the increase in traffic, road closures, and related commuting disruptions” area federal workers should expect commuting delays and travel disruptions.

OPM “strongly urges the use of telework” to keep the government operating and to minimize traffic congestion.

“Employees who can be spared from their duties may also request to adjust their work schedule and use their alternative work schedule day off or take annual leave, leave without pay, and/or previously earned compensatory time off or earned credit hours under a flexible work schedule,” reads the memo.
