Thanksgiving Schedule for City of Alexandria Services, Facilities

Trash and recycling remains on a regular schedule and will be picked up on Thursday, Thanksgiving Day. No parking restrictions Thursday or Friday. Parking is free in city garages Friday.

All City of Alexandria government offices will be closed on Thursday and Friday in observance of the Thanksgiving Day holiday.

Here’s a schedule of city services and facilities provided:

Health Facilities: The Alexandria Health Department, 4480 King St., and the Flora Krause Casey Health Center, 1200 N. Howard St., will close at noon Wednesday. The Teen Wellness Center, 3330 King St., will be open Wednesday. All facilities will be closed Thursday and Friday.

Hotlines: All emergency hotlines operate 24 hours a day, 365 days a year, including the child protective services hotline at 703-746-5800; the domestic violence hotline, 703-746-4911; emergency services for mental health, 703-746-3401; the substance abuse crisis hotline, 703-746-3636; and the sexual assault hotline, 703-683-7273.

Libraries: All Alexandria Library branches will be closed on Nov. 22 and 23.

Parking: The Alexandria Police Department will suspend enforcement of parking restrictions at metered spaces, as well as time restrictions in residential permit parking districts and other areas with signed parking time limits, on Thursday and Friday. This year, parking in city garages will be free Friday.

Recreation Centers: All City of Alexandria recreation centers, including the Chinquapin Recreation Center, will be closed Thursday. The Chinquapin Recreation Center will be open from 6 a.m. to 6 p.m. Friday. All neighborhood recreation centers will open from 9 a.m. to 6 p.m. Friday. The Jerome "Buddie" Ford Nature Center will be open from 10 a.m to 5 p.m. Friday.

Refuse Collection: Residential trash and recycling will be collected on the regularly scheduled day during the week of Thanksgiving, including Thanksgiving Day; residents are advised that leaf bags are collected one day after their scheduled refuse collection day.

Schools: The Alexandria City Public Schools will be closed from Wednesday through Friday.

State Offices: The General and Juvenile and Domestic Relations District Courts will close at noon on Wednesday and remain closed Friday and Saturday. The Circuit Court will be closed Thursday and Friday. The DMV Office at 2681 Mill Rd. will be closed Thursday through Saturday.

Transit: Alexandria Transit Company's DASH bus service will not operate Thursday. The King Street Trolley will operate on a regular weekday schedule on Thanksgiving Day, from 11:30 a.m. to 10:15 p.m., and will begin operating at 6 a.m. Friday (Black Friday). DASH will operate on a regular weekday schedule on Friday.
