Small Businesses Help Promote April as Sexual Assault Awareness Month

April is Sexual Assault Awareness Month and the city's Department of Community and Human Services has partnered with some local businesses to shed some light on the issue.

and the city are working together to promote National Denim Day, part of a sexual violence and prevention awareness campaign on April 25.

The Old Town store will showcase displays from Messages of Hope showing jeans decorated by survivors and supporters and offer visitors information on the campaign and the issues it focuses on.

Zoe will be open special hours 11 a.m. - 7 p.m. as part of the Denim Day observance. 

The Sexual Assault Response and Awareness Program of Alexandria is sponsoring the Clothesline Project, which displays T-shirts painted by women expressing their messages about violence. The shirts are scheduled to go on display at in Old Town through the end of the month. T-shirts are color-coded for different types of violence.
