ACPS Deputy Superintendent Byess Resigns

Superintendent Morton Sherman announces that Margaret Byess has resigned effective May 25.

Margaret Byess, the deputy superintendent for planning and support operations at Alexandria City Public Schools, has resigned.

In a Friday evening statement, Superintendent Morton Sherman announced her resignation effective May 25.

Byess, who has worked within ACPS for five years, oversees human resources, pupil transportation, school nutrition services, and facilities operations.

During the transition, ACPS said "supports will be established" to cover the areas overseen by Byess, who earned an annual salary of $167,000 plus a sheltered annuity of $20,000, .

Byess was the ACPS representative at Tuesday’s City Council meeting .
