Charles Barrett Elementary Has 'Most Outstanding Crossing Guard of 2013'

Angie Thigpen wins award from Virginia Department of Transportation.

Charles Barrett Elementary School Crossing Guard Angie Thigpen has been named one of six Most Outstanding Crossing Guards of 2013, by the Virginia Department of Transportation.

Students and parents from across the Commonwealth nominated 25 crossing guards for the honor. Thigpen, a Charles Barrett crossing guard since 2006, received nominations from multiple parents in the community, according to a news release from Alexandria City Public Schools.

“She is such a positive presence,” Charles Barrett Principal Seth Kennard said in the release. “She often volunteers in the cafeteria each day before her afternoon shift, and is always smiling and waving at students no matter what the weather is. She makes it her mission to be sure students arrive to school safe and happy each day!”
