Local Back-to-School Supply Drive is in Full Swing

Community Partners for Children has placed bins in local businesses to collect new school supplies for public school children.

Community Partners for Children has kicked off its annual back-to-school drive for school supplies.

The nonprofit is collecting supplies for all age groups and is seeking new composition books, spiral notebooks, wide-rule notebook paper, pens, pencils, crayons, erasers, scissors, rulers and other items.

The supplies will be distributed to children in need attending Alexandria City Public Schools.

Bins have been placed throughout local businesses in Alexandria for donation drop offs through Aug. 28.

The nonprofit is also partnering with for the grocery store's Back to School Festival on Saturday. The store will be collecting supplies that day and donating them to the CPC drive to distribute among schools.

“CPC depends on the generosity of the Alexandria community to help us ensure all Alexandria kids are ready for school,” said CPC Board President Pat Miller. “This drive helps kids who, through no fault of their own, can’t get the school supplies they need. CPC tries to make it possible for any student qualifying for free or reduced-price school meals to have the basic tools many take for granted in order to start the school year right.”

Old Town drop-off locations include , Fit One Studio, Old Town Transit Shop, , McEnearney Associates and Weichert Realtors.
