Old Dominion Boat Club Select Crew Kicks Off Fall Season

Men and women's teams competed in the Head of the Potomac Regatta.

The Old Dominion Boat Club's Select Crew Team kicked off the fall crew season last Sunday at the Head of the Potomac Regatta, a 2.8 mile race that was run along the Georgetown waterfront and featured club and collegiate squads from around the area.

T.C. Williams High School Senior Kate Banchoff stroked the ODBC Women’s Youth Eight through the first head race of the year as Lauren Soriente, a senior at West Potomac High School, served as coxswain.

The crew also included Alexandra Lemke, Nadia Magellon, Katie Pickup, Gabriella Salcedo, Emily Breeding, Kate Arnold, and Allyson Emblom.

ODBC also fielded a Women’s Youth Four at the regatta, which the club called "a less typical entry...that will become an integral part of the fall season." Kalie Benjamin, Caroline Olsson, Chloe Reynolds and Paige Mellerio were coxed by Maddy Stone through their 6th place performance in their first head race in that event.

The ODBC Men’s Youth Eight -- with Mark Comey, Madison Weitekamp, Chris Porter, Greg Montenegro, Dru Hodgens, Sam Hanoura, Chris Dobson, Sam Zickar, and Chris Kidd -- came in 8th out of close to 20 competitors.  The Youth Men’s Four -- with Emily Kubik, Madison Weitekamp, Chris Porter, Greg Montenegro, and Chris Kidd -- placed 2nd.

The team is coached by Meredith Mariani, Stephanie Patton and Lori Criado. The team's next race is the Occoquan Challenge, which will be held on Oct. 9 at Sandy Run Regional Park.
