The Alexandria City School Board voted unanimously yesterday to renew Superintendent Morton Sherman's contract through June 30, 2015.
Morton's salary will remain capped at $250,000 for the next three years and he will receive a one-time payment of $40,000, under the terms of the contract.
Morton was hired in 2008.
"The school board appreciates the significant progress and improvements in student achievement that have been made and the hard work of our teachers across the division, but acknowledges there is more work to be done," School Board Chairman Sheryl Gorsuch said in a statement. "We support the direction the superintendent has taken the school district and his efforts to make further improvements."
