State Investigating Test Fraud, Inaccurate Data in Adult Ed Program

State officials have found that an “inexplicable” number of adult students all received the same score (578) on a test that the federal government requires of grant recipients. In one GED-preparation class, all 10 students received that score.

Additionally, another test that is offered in a one-on-one environment and lasts about 30 minutes “was supposedly taken by 95 students in a single day in July 2011,” Virginia Schools Insider reports. The situation was flagged because Alexandria has only one instructor certified to give the exam, making it virtually imopossible for that amount of students to have actually received the exam on one day.
