Updated: Titans Roll in Opener

T.C. Williams romps to 73-0 win over Wakefield.

The football team got its season started with a bang on Thursday, blanking Wakefield 73-0 at Parker-Gray Stadium, according to The Washington Post.

The Titans led 52-0 at halftime and by 73 after three quarters. The slaughter rule then went into effect and the clock was left running for the fourth quarter.

Dennis Randolph returned to the sideline for the Titans after leaving the team four games into last season following a cancer diagnosis. The Titans coach is now cancer free.

Junior Tyrice Henry had a 55-yard kickoff return for a touchdown following a safety in the first quarter and a 40-yard interception return for a score in the second quarter.

Senior quarterback Alex Grosser completed six of eight passes for 111 yards and two touchdowns for the Titans.

Tailback Dealo Robertson carried the ball 10 times for 90 yards for two scores. He also caught one pass for 14 yards.

Receiver Tiffany Person also caught a pass for the Titans in the blowout victory. The 5-foot-7, 130-pound junior tweeted after the game, “Got that catch tonight! So happy :)”

I attended the game and TC conducted themselves in a sportsman-like manner the whole game. Second team players were on the field in the 2nd quarter and the Titans primarily ran the ball the last three quarters of the game. Everyone played for TC and there was no real effort to run up the score. Wakefield just could not stop them although the Warriors played hard and put forth effort. Unfortunately they could not keep up with the Titans. A more realistic test comes up for the Titans next week versus Westfield.

Sorry I missed the first game! I'll be at the next one to check out the marching band uniforms AND the football team. Go Titans!
