Alexandria’s Bicycle and Pedestrian Advisory Committee is hosting a family-friendly community bike ride this month.
On Oct. 20, the bicycling group will take participants on a seven-mile ride from Jones Point Park to National Harbor and back.
This ride, which will last from about 10 a.m. to 1 p.m., will be on bike paths all the way. However, there are two hills (the Wilson Bridge is like a long gradual hill) and one gravel section.
The group plans to stop at National Harbor for about 30 minutes to have fun before returning.
Families with children are encouraged to attend although BPAC asks that adults accompany children.
Children under 16 must wear a helmet.
Riders should meet in Jones Point Park near the rest rooms around 10 a.m. and plan on bringing water and a sense of adventure. There is no cost to attend but RSVP to Jonathan Krall at jonathan@jonathankrall.net
BPAC is also having its regular meeting on Oct. 15 from 7 p.m. to 9 p.m. at the Durant Center.
Editor's Note: This article was updated to reflect that all children under the age of 16 must wear a helmet on this ride.
A very small portion of the path on the Wilson Bridge is technically DC, but they also require helmets for young riders.
