Help Your Favorite Alexandria Nonprofits with Spring2ACTion: May 5, 6 and 7

As Alexandrians, we have a pretty good sense of how generous we are as a community, but did you know that our generosity has been quantified? According to Convio, one of the largest constituent management vendors for nonprofits, Alexandria is the most generous online giving city in the United States and has been for the last three years?  In 2010, 334 of every 1,000 Alexandria residents made an average donation of $78.44 for a total of almost $4 million dollars in donations!

What we don’t know is how much of our generosity helps Alexandria and Alexandrians. Convio works with some of the biggest charities in the world, and we suspect a lot more of Alexandria’s generosity could impact Alexandria directly if we pulled together as a community to make it a priority. That’s what ACTion Alexandria’s latest project, Spring2ACTion, is all about.

On May 5, 6 and 7, Alexandrians will come together to support the nonprofit organizations in our community that do life-changing work every day.  You can choose to give to one or more of more than 40 participating nonprofit organizations of all sizes and causes including; arts & culture, education, environment, food & shelter, health, and neighborhoods.  With your help and by working together, Spring2ACTion hopes to raise $100,000 and engage 1,500 Alexandrians support our nonprofit community and the work they do to make Alexandria a better community for all of us. And thanks to the generosity of our sponsors and the hard work of the participating nonprofits, Spring2ACTion has $80,000 in matching grants to increase the impact of your gifts.

And the best part of Spring2ACTion? It’ll be fun!  Throughout the event, we’ll be giving away prizes to nonprofits and individual donors.  Nonprofits with the most unique donors can win up to $5,000 in grants and prizes and individuals, or ACTion Heroes as we call them at ACTion Alexandria, can win $100 for their favorite nonprofit plus great prizes including an iPod, a wine tasting party for 20, restaurant gift card, and more!
