Five Local Leaders to be Recognized at Business Philanthropy Summit
The event will be held May 4 at the First Baptist Church on King Street.
Five local leaders will be recognized as part of Spring for Alexandria and presented at the 14th annual Business Philanthropy Summit on May 4.
The summit, held at First Baptist Church on King Street, attracts more than 300 businesses, nonprofit organizations, elected officials and city agencies.

2012 Large Business Philanthropist of the Year
BB&T, Lighthouse Project

Accepting the Award: John Reiter, senior vice president; and Jen Ferrara, vice president, business deposit officer
BB&T's Lighthouse Project is a company-wide program designed to engage employees to be a force for positive change in their own communities. The Alexandria/Arlington Lighthouse team has completed 28 projects, donated $40,000 and together all of the BB&T Lighthouse teams have provided over 150,000 volunteer hours.
2012 Local Business Philanthropist of the Year
Simpson Development Company
Accepting the Award: Donald Simpson Sr. and Donald Simpson Jr.
The Simpson Development Company has contributed to keeping Alexandria active and engaged by supporting programs for youth sports and therapeutic recreation, and by lending business expertise to programs such as the 's Business Connections Program and Alexandria's Affordable Housing Advisory Committee.

The Hoffman Family has developed the Eisenhower corridor as a livable mixed-use urban center and contributed extensively to many area causes from breast cancer awareness to providing shelter and services to the homeless through and more.

Janet Barnett, Executive Director, Alexandria Senior Services
Barnett has expanded services to seniors in our community. She uses creative solutions to raise awareness, publicize programs and bring help to those who need it most.
2012 Nonprofit Board Leader of the Year
Kim Fiske, Partner, Fiske and Harvey
Fiske's leadership has resulted in a philanthropic legacy benefitting Alexandrians now and into the future. Fiske's board leadership service has included the , SCAN and ACT for Alexandria.
