Spring2Action in Its Final Day of Fund Drive for Local Nonprofits

Online giving initiative aims to raise $100,000 in three days

Spring2Action is in full swing.

The three-day initiative is on its final day of seeking online giving for local nonprofits.

“We thought given Alexandria’s record as the most generous online giving city that this is a perfect opportunity to do something similar" for Alexandria's nonprofits, said ACTion Alexandria Executive Director Tracy Viselli.

The initiative includes a live leaderboard showing which nonprofit has reaped the most donations so far.

A potential donor can search by nonprofit category, such as literacy or children and family, and get more information on a group’s mission and location.

The project’s goal is to help nonprofits raise $100,000 over three days through at least 1,500 separate donors. Nonprofits with the most unique donors can win up to $5,000 in grants and prizes and individuals

A quick check Saturday morning shows that the initiative has raised about $51,500 so far. Viselli says it's a great way to boost community causes through a secure, online environment.

The project ends May 7 at 11:59 p.m. and is part of the city’s larger Spring for Alexandria volunteer event.
