Alexandria Arts Safari, Pirate Treasure Your Health 5K and T.C. Williams Football

Events and activities for your consideration: 

Free Yoga — Maureen Clyne of Prasada Yoga hosts a free Harvest Moon Yoga class outdoors from 6 p.m. to 7 p.m. Friday at 1900 Mount Vernon Ave. The class is suitable for all levels. For more information, check out the event listing on the Del Ray Patch calendar.

Dig In — Tour the excavation at Shuter’s Hill on the grounds of the George Washington Masonic Memorial being conducted by city archeologists and students from George Washington University at 2 p.m. Friday. The dig site includes evidence of an 18th century plantation and remnants of an antebellum estate that was occupied by Union troops. Tours are free, but registration is required and can be made by calling 703-746-4399 or emailing 703-746-4399.

Pirate-themed 5K — Head over to the YMCA Alexandria (420 E. Monroe Ave.) for its 5K Pirate Treasure Your Health Race. Race kicks off at 8 a.m. and participants can register in advance or just prior to the race. Free eye patches for all! Check out race and registration information in this Patch story.

Arts Safari — The Torpedo factory Art Center (105 N. Union St.) is hosting its 18th annual Alexandria Arts Safari from noon to 4 p.m. Saturday. The free day of hands-on craft activities for kids and families includes work with clay, painting, collage, origami, papier-mâché, block printing and more. The Art League will host a gallery scavenger hunt and the Alexandria Archaeological Museum will present a painting and coloring activities. Activities are appropriate for children age 5 and over. They should be prepared to get a little dirty.

Fire Prevention — All nine Alexandria fire stations will be open to the public from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. Saturday as part of National Fire Prevention Week. Each station will open its doors to the community and provide a variety of family activities along with fire prevention tips and tours.

Happy birthday, Del Ray Pizzeria! — This favorite local eatery celebrates its three-year anniversary with a shindig throughout the restaurant and in the rear parking lot from 1 p.m. to 6 p.m. Saturday. Chef Eric Reid will be grilling up a storm and staff will tap all sorts of customized, one-off beers supplied specifically for the event and other special brews saved for this special occasion. Event will also include games and activities for adults and children.

Tour the Apothecary — In recognition of National Pharmacy Month, the Stabler-Leadbeater Apothecary Museum (105 S. Fairfax St.) will host a free open house from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. Saturday. This unique business served Alexandria from 1792 to 1933.

Cheer on the Titans — The T.C. Williams varsity football team improved to 4-1 last week with a win at Annandale. The Titans look to stay undefeated in the Patriot District when they play host to the South County Stallions (4-1) at 1 p.m. Saturday at Parker-Gray Memorial Stadium (3330 King St.). Tickets are $5.

Meet a Candidate — Former city councilwoman Alicia Hughes is hosting two meet-and-greets with Virginia attorney general candidate Mark Obenshain on Sunday in Alexandria. Obenshain will be the gazebo at Cameron Station roundabout from 5 p.m. to 6 p.m. and at the Ford’s Landing boardwalk in Old Town from 7 p.m. to 8 p.m. Obenshain (R) currently represents Harrisonburg in the State Senate. He is running against state Sen. Mark Herring (D), who represents parts of Fairfax and Loudoun counties. Election Day is Nov. 5.

Frenchy LeBlanc — The lead singer of The StyleMasters will perform for free from 10 a.m. to noon Sunday at the Four Mile Run Farmers and Artisans Market (4131 Mount Vernon Ave.). The market is open from 8 a.m. to 1 p.m.
