Duncan Library Book Sale — The Friends of Duncan Library hosts its annual fall book sale Thursday through Saturday in and outside Duncan Branch (2501 Commonwealth Ave.). Prices range from $1 to $3. For more information, check out this Del Ray Patch story.

Archaeology Day at Shuter's Hill — Join Alexandria archaeologists and George Washington University field school students at 2 p.m. Friday, Oct. 18 for a free tour of the Shuter’s Hill excavation site located on the grounds of the George Washington National Masonic Memorial. Herman’s Hermits starring Peter Noone — Tell Mrs. Brown she’s got a lovely daughter with this British Invasion band at 7:30 p.m. Friday, Oct. 18 at the Birchmere (3701 Mount Vernon Ave.) Tickets cost $45. For more information, visit the Birchmere website.

5K Family Walk/Run For Wounded Warrior Caregivers — The Catholic Daughters of the Americas and Operation Homefront are sponsoring this family-friendly 5K run/walk at 8 a.m. Saturday, Oct. 19 at Cameron Run Regional Park (4001 Eisenhower Ave.). Alexandria Country Day School Country Fair — Features food, games and fun for all from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. Saturday, Oct. 19 at Alexandria Country Day School (2400 Russell Rd.). Be sure to catch a special 11 a.m. performance by The Great Zucchini. Admission to Country Market is free but the purchase of carnival tickets is required for most games and The Great Zucchini’s performance. For more information, call 703-548-4804. ACDS will host an open house prior to the fair at 9 a.m. Saturday.

The John Wilkes Booth Escape Route — on Saturday, Oct. 19, the Friends of Fort Ward presents this daylong (8 a.m. to 6 p.m.) bus tour led by guide David Heiby tracing Booth’s escape from Ford’s Theatre following his assassination of Abraham Lincoln. The tour will visit sites in D.C. and Southern Maryland. Pre-registration required. $95 for FFW members, $110 for nonmembers. Pre-registration required. Call 703-746-4848 for more information.
