Historic Alexandria Homes Tour, Story Festival and Titans Football

Welcome to the weekend, Alexandria. There is a little something for everyone around town—home tours, story time, high school football and, ahem, flu shots.

The Historic Alexandria Homes Tour offers inside looks at a Federal Style home with six fireplaces, an 18th-century colonial, the Old Town Theater and more. The 72nd annual event runs from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. Saturday. All proceeds benefit Inova Alexandria Hospital. Advance $35 tickets can be purchased online, at Ramsay House (221 King St.) or Twig Thrift Shop (106 N. Columbus St.) until noon Thursday. Day-of tickets will be available for $40 at Ramsay House and the Christ Church Parish Hall (118 N. Columbus St.). 703-683-5544. 

The fourth annual Alexandria Story Festival will feature 10 authors presenting, signing and reading their latest books from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. Saturday at T.C. Williams High School  (3330 King St.). The event is free for children up through middle school. More information at the festival website or by calling 703-299-9854. 

Patriot District play. The T.C. Williams High School varsity football team opens its Patriot District schedule Saturday when it hosts W.T. Woodson. The Titans are 2-1, while the Cavaliers are winless after two games. Kickoff is at 1 p.m. and tickets are $5.

The fall Parkfairfax Native Plant Sale runs from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. Saturday at 3601 Valley Dr. Fifteen vendors from four states will be on hand, making it the largest native plant sale in the D.C. area. The volunteer-driven effort aims to promote gardening that is ecologically friendly to woodlands, watersheds, and wildlife. More information on this Del Ray Patch calendar listing.

The Alexandria Seaport Foundation’s Seaport Day includes a chowder cook-off by local restaurants, boat building, a jazz band performance and exhibits at Waterfront Park, 1 Prince St. in Old Town. The event runs from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. 703-582-8480.

Enjoy Supper Under the Stars in King Street Gardens Park, 1806 King St. by the King Street-Old Town Metro station. The 5 to 9:30 p.m. event Friday is catered by Hard Times Cafe and includes a cash bar. Entertainment by Al Williams. Anyone may attend. 703-683-0333.

Watch City of Alexandria Vice Mayor Allison Silberberg get a flu shot. The Alexandria Health Department will be providing free flu shots as part of the ALIVE! Saturday food distribution and the Multicultural Health Fair. Flu shots will be distributed beginning 9 a.m. Saturday at Cora Kelly Recreation Center, Music Room, 25 W. Reed Ave.

It’s a wrap. Learn how to create your own white silk reticule or a structured turban. After an eight-year hiatus, Gadsby’s Tavern Museum is bringing back the Costume Symposium Friday and Saturday. “The Road to Regency Fashion” explores fashion from 1770 to 1820. The Road to Regency ball is Saturday from 8 p.m. to 11 p.m. Tickets cost $50 a person or $300 a person for the full two-day symposium and one ball ticket. GadsbysTavern.org, 703-746-4242.
