Alexandria's City Hall of today was built on the site of the market and city hall established when the city was founded in 1749. The building burned in 1871, prompting construction of a new hall. Today city hall houses the majority of Alexandria's government offices, city council chambers and hosts city council meetings.
- Hours: Mon-Fri, 8am - 5pm, except city holidays; Sat, 9am - noon, preceding the personal property tax due date (Oct. 5) and the real estate tax due dates (June 15 and Nov. 15). City Hall is also often open in the evenings.
