ACTion Alexandria Wants Your Questions for Council Candidates

Post your questions for Alexandria's many city council candidates on ACTion Alexandria's blog.

ACTion Alexandria wants to know what you would ask the city’s many candidates for city council.  The web-based service designed to help bring together members of the community with local nonprofit groups to solve problems in the city reached out to citizens in a blog post on Monday. Folks can post their own questions in the site’s public forum and vote for the questions they would like to see candidates answer. “We'll make sure the candidates see them and work with the candidates and political parties to get some responses,” ACTion Alexandria’s Tracy Viselli wrote in the blog post. “Let’s create a public forum where everyone can see what Alexandria residents think are the important issues.” Viselli left the following rules: You can leave …

City Likely to Approve Initiative Measuring a 'Healthy' Alexandria

Healthy city indicator system included in fiscal year 2012 budget

Alexandria is one of the wealthiest cities in the country, but things could always get better. The Alexandria City Council will most likely approve a $45,000 “Healthy City” indicator system in the fiscal year 2012 budget, which will assess the city’s social, economic and environmental conditions. Residents and business owners have until Apr. 1 to vote on what matters most to the people who live in Alexandria.   The city is working with the Partnership for a Healthier Alexandria, ACT for Alexandria and Virginia Tech on the project. “The $45,000 is not the total cost of the effort. The total cost is more along the lines of $125,000, but because Virginia Tech is willing to forgive the administrative expenses, the cost is reduced by about half…
