Letter to the Editor: James Supports Democrats for a Better Alexandria

Carol James weighs in on her support of PAC Democrats for a Better Alexandria and voting in June and November.

To the Editor: As David Speck, a former member of the Alexandria City Council and Virginia House of Delegates, said in this space: "(W)hen a group of us came together to form Securing Alexandria’s Future, we were looking for candidates who had positive, strategic, long-term, big picture views of the city and were willing to make tough (i.e., occasionally unpopular) decisions about our city’s future." In joining an earlier political action committee—Democrats for a Better Alexandria (DBA)—I was motivated to provide voters with information about candidates (accessible on the website democratsforabetteralexandria.blogspot.com). Hi Danny, Why are you trying to tell other people who they can and can't endorse? Also, watch the words you use, lest they come back to haunt you. I thought the Democratic party was name that because they were "democratic," i.e., inclusive and tolerant of the opinions and views of everyone, even if they don't necessarily match yours.   more ›

Local PAC 'Securing Alexandria's Future' Unveils Endorsements

Group selects six it deems "most qualified to serve the city" along with two honorable mentions.

Local political action committee Securing Alexandria’s Future has thrown its support behind six of the 14 Democratic candidates for City Council, also naming two “runners-up.” The PAC, which is co-chaired by former Councilmen Lonnie Rich and David Speck, has selected John Chapman, Sean Holihan, Tim Lovain, Del Pepper, Paul Smedberg and Justin Wilson as “candidates most qualified to serve the city.” The group said: “We also feel that two candidates, Donna Fossum and Melissa Feld, are worthy of consideration. …Although not endorsed by SAF, both Fossum and Feld… exhibited a commitment to community involvement.” SAF leaders also include former Police Chief David Baker and current City Councilmen Kerry Donley and Rob Krupicka, both of whom are …
