The wife of wounded Alexandria Police Officer Peter Laboy called his recovery from a gunshot wound to the head “a miracle” Tuesday at a press conference at police headquarters. “I definitely think it is a miracle. It was not his time to go,” Suzanne Laboy said. “Part of the miracle is that everyone did their job that day.” Peter Laboy, 45, of Alexandria, was responding to a look out from the department for a yellow cab minivan for a minor offense in Old Town on Feb. 27 when he was shot. Kashif Bashir facing slew of charges in Feb. 27 shooting incident that wounded Alexandria Police Officer Peter Laboy.
The suspect in the February shooting of Alexandria Police Officer Peter Laboy was indicted by an Alexandria Circuit Court grand jury Monday. Kashif Bashir, 27, is facing one count of attempted capital murder of a law enforcement officer, one count of aggravated malicious wounding and two counts of use of a firearm in the commission of a felony. The attempted capital murder charge and aggravated malicious wounding charge each carry sentences of 20 years to life. The firearm charges each carry three-year sentences. Trial dates will be chosen in the next 10 days. Bashir is being represented by the Alexandria Public Defender’s Office. Jacob Choi ran into the street May 4 on Stevenson Avenue.
Alexandria police have released the name of the 4-year-old boy who was struck and killed May 4 when he ran into the street and in front of an oncoming SUV. Police identified the boy as Jacob Choi. The crash occurred on Stevenson Avenue, in West End Alexandria. Police spokesman Jody Donaldson said the boy and his family live in the immediate area but could not provide an exact address. Jacob was walking alongside the road with his mother when he broke free and ran, police said. A group of the boy’s family members were at the scene, and Jacob's mother, who was holding another young child in the family, ran after Jacob and sustained non-life-threatening injuries. Four-year-old boy was struck by vehicle, killed Saturday in Alexandria.
Alexandria police say charges will not be filed against the driver of an SUV who struck and killed a 4-year-old boy Saturday in West End Alexandria. Police spokeswoman Ashley Hildebrandt said Monday that she could not release the speed of the vehicle at the time of the collision, which also injured the boy’s mother, saying it was under investigation. The speed limit in the area where the crash occurred, in the 6300 block of Stevenson Avenue, is 35 mph. “It just looks like a horrible and unfortunate accident,” Hildebrandt said. A 4-year-old boy was struck and killed by a vehicle shortly after 11 a.m. Saturday on Stevenson Avenue in West End Alexandria. The boy was walking alongside the road with his mother when he broke free and ran, said Alexandria police spokeswoman Ashley Hildebrandt. "The 4-year-old ran into the street," she said. "The mother ran after him." An 84-year-old man was driving a 2010 Jeep Commander eastbound on Stevenson Avenue when the boy ran into the street, police found in their preliminary investigation. Drop off your expired, used or unwanted prescription drugs in Alexandria.
Several Alexandria locations will serve as free prescription drug disposal sites Saturday during National Prescription Drug Take-Back Day. The event runs from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. at many locations in Northern Virginia, including the Alexandria Police Department at 3600 Wheeler Ave. The event is meant to help residents dispose of potentially dangerous expired, unused or unwanted prescription drugs, according to the DEA. Since 2010, law enforcement officials and the DEA have taken in more than 2 million pounds of expired prescription drugs, according to a press release from the administration.
