The Alexandria Transit Co. is proposing a mix of fare increases and service changes to make up for a city budget shortfall in fiscal year 2014. The board of directors for the transit company, which operates Alexandria’s DASH bus service, will hold a public hearing on the proposed changes at 5:30 p.m. Thursday in the Sister Cities Conference Room 1101 at Alexandria City Hall. More than 50 buses were retrofitted with bike racks.
All Alexandria DASH buses are now equipped with bike racks as part of the bus company’s Bike-N-Roll program. Alexandria Transit Company mechanics and Sportworks contractors spent last weekend installing new bike racks on the 53 DASH buses that had not been equipped with them. Now, all DASH buses have front-mounted, two-position bike racks, and bikes can travel on the entire DASH fleet of 73 buses and five trolleys. In 2008, Alexandria City Council passed the Eco-City Charter and adopted the Environmental Action Plan for fiscal years 2009-2030. The free shuttle will run from the Eisenhower Metro to Prince and Washington streets on parade day.
The Alexandria Transit Company, also known as DASH, will provide free shuttle service to and from the George Washington Birthday Parade in Alexandria Monday. DASH will run a continuous, free shuttle from the Eisenhower Metrorail Station to Prince and Washington streets beginning at 11 a.m., with the last shuttle departing Prince and Washington streets at 4 p.m. to return to the Eisenhower Metro. DASH is offering more frequent runs to school immediately.
Alexandria Transit Company, or DASH, announced that riders on the AT6 route will see more frequent service between the King Street Metro station and Northern Virginia Community College, effective immediately. This change will increase service from every 30 minutes to every 15 minutes in the morning and evening peak periods and improve schedule adherence, which has been affected by increasing ridership in recent years, according to DASH. Patricia Washington and her staff awarded exceptional Alexandria staff.
The new CEO of the Alexandria Convention and Visitors Association made her first official appearance at its Tourism Marketing Forum on Friday night. Patricia Washington and her staff recognized individuals who contributed to the success of ACVA in 2012 during the annual forum, which was held at Historic Mount Vernon for the third year in a row. They could save money without raising fares by eliminating the Chantilly call center that supposedly takes care of bus patrons problems. They are rude and resolve nothing other then to have patrons not wanting to call with problems.   more ›
