Registration Now Open for 2012 Alexandria Turkey Trot

The standard entry fee for the Nov. 22 race is $20.

Registration is now open online for the 2012 Alexandria Turkey Trot, which will begin for the second straight year at George Washington Middle School on Thanksgiving morning. The standard race entry fee is $20. Registration for runners ages 13 to 20 is $15, while children under 13 can register for $5. Runners may also purchase a long-sleeve cotton T-shirt or a short-sleeve technical T-shirt for an extra $10 with their registration. Online registrants have the option of making a donation to race benefactor ALIVE!, a nonprofit organization consisting of volunteers from more than 40 religious congregations and community groups working to help Alexandrians in need. This year’s race will once again have special fields for runners with strollers…

I'm going to suspend comments on this article because I feel the dialogue isn't headed in a meaningful direction. We'll have more info about the Turkey Trot in the weeks ahead once the final route and start time are determined. Location Change Boosts Alexandria Turkey Trot

Move to George Washington Middle School accommodates largest crowd in the history of the Thanksgiving Day race.

After 35 years of kicking off the Alexandria Turkey Trot at the north end of Del Ray, a move to the south end proved vital in accommodating the largest crowd in the history of the race. More than 4,000 runners took to the streets Thursday for the 36th installment of what’s billed as the area’s premier Thanksgiving Day race. For the first time ever, the race kicked off and finished at George Washington Middle School. In the past, the race was stationed at Cora Kelly Recreation Center. The growing size of the race field prompted organizers to make a switch in location and to alter the 5-mile course through the neighborhood. “This has been a huge difference,” said Jill Erber, race chair with the Del Ray Business Association, which organizes …
