Alexandria Sheriff's Association Awards Scholarships

Five children of Sheriff's Office employees win awards.

Five children of Alexandria Sheriff's Office employees received college scholarships, the sheriff's association announced Tuesday.  The recipients of the 2011 Veronica Mitchell Scholarship, all of whom are college freshmen, were picked based on their 500-word essays in which they wrote of their parent's work in the Sheriff's Office and its importance to the community; how their parent's work influenced them; what they planned to study in college; and their community involvement.  The awards went to:  This is the third year the scholarships have been awarded.
