Democratic Council Candidates Challenge Field to Four Debates

Two of the forums will include one-on-one mayoral debate with incumbent Democrat Bill Euille and independent challenger Andrew Macdonald.

1:15 p.m. update — Alexandria Republican City Committee Chairman Tom Fulton told Patch Tuesday morning he’d like to see more debates than the four announced by the Alexandria Democratic Committee. “I don’t think we’re letting voters and citizens say what they need from the candidates,” Fulton said. “To limit to no more than four, it undermines the right of citizens to hear from the candidates. I’m not quite sure why four is sufficient. Allen-Kaine Debates: Tentative Schedule Released

Two are vying for U.S. Senate seat.

Not wasting any time, the campaign for Tim Kaine, the former Virginia governor running for the U.S. Senate, has released a schedule of debates Kaine has accepted in a race against his Republican opponent George Allen. Allen, the former senator and governor, won Tuesday's GOP primary against three contenders and celebrated his win with his family in Richmond Tuesday night. The general election is Nov. 6.
