Will the Music Festival Move?

Making noise in the heart of Del Ray.

One person’s treasure is another person’s frustration.  Due to noise concerns, the City’s Special Events Committee is reviewing the Del Ray Music Festival. At this point, next year’s music festival will move from Colasanto Park to a less central (undetermined) location. I live within close earshot of Colosanto Park, the green space adjacent to Mount Vernon Recreation Center, where most major Del Ray events are held. From my home, I can hear everything from event music to the elementary school’s fire drills. I see these sounds as a part of our neighborhood soundtrack—a byproduct of being in the mix.  As a mom of three children under the age of 4, having community events in a central location—surrounded by restaurants and playgrounds and …

It is ridiculous to move the festival from a wonderful site, easily accessed by all Del Ray citizens, to who knows where because 2 people complained! If one of them was Elizabeth W. that makes me extra mad, because she said the "the noise is intolerable, as well as the trash left by its followers." Kate Moran: Ain’t Nothing Like the Real Thing

The Del Ray Music Festival is full of musical acts on Saturday

How does Kate Moran find time to sleep and still stay cheerful? By day, the Del Ray pop singer with an earthy voice works at the U.S. Department of Education’s Office of Special Education Programs. By night, when she’s not earning her Doctorate at George Mason University two nights a week or collecting used swimsuits for poor Alexandria kids, you can find her belting out “Ain’t Nothing Like The Real Thing” onstage with The Kate Moran Band.  Kate, 35, co-founder of the Del Ray Music Festival, started The Kate Moran Band in 2006. “I figure I only have one life to live and I’m going to live it to the fullest that I can and take advantage of every moment.
